"Rappin' with Jesus is stunning and relevant, particularly to our young people who are hungry for spiritual food, yet need to understand it in terms meaningful to them in their unique culture and language."
--The Honorable Andrew Young
P.K. McCary is an author and storyweaver whose rise to fame came when she redid parts of the Bible for Urban teenagers.
The Black Bible Chronicle series was dubbed the Hip Hop Bible, but P.K. says the stories grew from her time teaching Sunday School to teenagers who had little or no formal Christian training. Father Andrew Greeley called the books, "Vivid and forceful ... also charming," but many saw the books as a way to reach the unreachable; those who had fallen through the cracks in a religious society.
Since her first books hit the market, P.K. has done more in both the Christian market and the peace movement. She is the founder and host of
The Peace Hour, an initiative of the Decade of Nonviolence, now heard on
Think Peace Radio Network and on
OHZONE.org. Additional books include collaborations with authors of the books
Black Eyed Peas for the Soul and
What Can Happen When We Pray. She also worked with Bill Moyers on the PBS Project
Genesis, which led her to her work in interfaith. She is a member of several peace organizations, including United Religions Initiative, where she serves as Trustee and secretary, the Decade of Nonviolence-Houston, where she serves as board member, is a member of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her last book,
What Matters to the Heart, was a huge success. Currently, P.K. is working on several new projects, including nonviolent training for teenagers and building up her Radio Network. She believes that her role is help harness the energy of young people while capturing the wisdom of the Elders. Together, she says, "We can build cultures of peace through faith, hope and love--the greatest of these being a love for humanity."
